One cold, rainy Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, I was flipping through the channels trying to find a cooking show or animal show we could watch as a family. I came across an info-mercial type program for a church that is local, but has several locations. Quite honestly, I am not sure if it is my kind of church or not, but they were promoting a free Bible app.
Side Note: I am a open my Bible and read kinda girl- I don’t do apps. I didn’t think I could get anything out of reading a Bible app, where I couldn’t write notes, highlight verses, or mark my place. I just don’t do apps.
Or so I thought.
The promotion included various people in favor of the app, including sports stars (blah blah blah), but what really caught my attention was when they said it included free devotionals and reading plans for all purposes.
…. I downloaded the app.
And I love it!
I’ve had a Bible app before, and deleted it because I just didn’t use it. But this app, I use almost every day! AND IT IS FREE.
(no, I am not getting paid to tell you this, I just really like this app!)
It is called YouVersion
You can choose the translation and language of the Bible that you prefer. I use the ESV translation (English Standard Version). There are devotions, short or long, to fit every area of life. You can make images using verses, highlight, make notes, save your place, favorite verses, etc. It is great!
When its still dark in the morning, and I wake up before I really want to get out of bed, I can grab my phone and read a daily reading, starting my day with God.
Now, for me, YouVersion doesn’t replace my Bible or my favorite Mom devotional. But it is just enough for extra encouragement and a good supplement for busy mornings.
If you’d like access to God’s Word wherever you are, no matter what you are doing, along with a little guidance in the way of readings, this is a good place to start!
