Actual Size Science Book Curriculum Review

Thanks to Educents, I have been given the opportunity to review Actual Size Science by Sunflower education.

This is a science curriculum (which also incorporates math) containing 36 lesson plans for life size science drawings …. using sidewalk chalk! Amazing and genius! There is also a social studies curriculum sold separately.

You and your children/students can create life size elephants, earth forms (think Grand Canyon! Woo Hoo!), and space shuttles! Although I have the curriculum in my hands, we have not had a chance to use it yet due to weather. I thought we had a break today, collected my supplies, rounded up the kiddos …. stepped outside into wind and rain! Ah, we will try again another day.

But, the lesson I had chosen was one on the Blue Whale- the largest animal on earth. I knew Lexie would love this lesson, because her favorite Bible story right now is Jonah and the big fish/whale. So when we do get our next pretty day, this is what we will be doing!

Kids can interact with the drawings they help create, using all of their senses as they play, pretend, talk, think, and learn.

Each blueprint gives you exact, easy to follow measurements to create the life size image of your choice on your sidewalk, driveway, street (we live on a street with only our house, it’s safe to draw in the street for now) or playground at a school or park. For the Blue Whale lesson we only needed chalk, a tape measure, and maybe a chalk reel if you have one, which we do thanks to my husbands tool collection. I can at times, be mathematically and spacially challenged. The blue whale lesson plan was so easy to follow and the blueprint so easy to read and visualize, I know I won’t have a hard time creating these lesson from chalk. Lexie will enjoy helping as well.

I plan to use this curriculum for so many lessons, and am considering purchasing the social studies curriculum.
