Apologia Educational Ministries is known for their wonderful homeschool products- The Ultimate Homeschool Planner ($29) is no exception. I have used this planner before, and when given the chance to review it this time, I jumped on it! Mine is the orange cover, but there are two other options as well.
About The Ultimate Homeschool Planner
This planner, by Debra Bell, is a wonderful planning tool. There are so many features it is hard to hit them all, but I will try to cover the most important ones for our family.
This planner has every planning for needed for a homeschool family. It includes:
- A large, one page (front and back), 4 year calendar for easy year long and future plans
- An easy user’s guide with samples of real planning pages for ease of use
- A one year planning grid
- Student Goal Setter section
- Pre-Planning Guides
- Monthly Planner
- Weekly Planner
- Teaching Tips
- High school Planning Guide and Example
- Year in Review
- Notes section
This planner really breaks down all the parts and pieces homeschool parents need to simply and accurately plan their school year.
Each planning grid (monthly and weekly) are empty for you to write in the dates; this means you can begin your planning at ANY point in the year. There are inspirational quotes throughout and lots of spaces on every page for notes.
What I Think About The Ultimate Homeschool Planner
I really love the layout of this planner; you first have the monthly spreads all together, and then the weekly spreads all together. This gives so much flexibility when planning! Some weeks, we don’t do school if we are visiting family or on vacation, but I don’t have to feel bad about not filling in info for that week, because we can just fill in for the week we start back!
Here are a few sample pages of the planner. Below are the beginning of the weekly pages.
The left side of the page is The Lord’s Day– it is where a beautiful space to connect Christ in your homeschool week. The right page is nicely laid out for recording memorable moments and evidences of God’s love. I love these pages! They are a beautiful way to keep joy in your homeschool week. =)
I look forward to filling in these pages throughout the week.
Also, if you are like me and love journaling and scrapbooking (though I don’t get to do it often), you will LOVE these spaces! The pages are SO nice and big, with small margins there is very little wasted page space.
Then there is the weekly plans spread. Here is a picture of the left side of the spiral. You can see my days partially filled in with some of our activities (Wednesday is blank because it is cleaning day and we squeeze school in after cleaning).
Again, the weekly plan spread goes from one side of the paper to the other, with no wasted margin space. The right page has a Notes column with space for notes, supplies needed, and appointments.
I like that you can plan for up to 6 students with this planner, and you can decide if you plan vertically or horizontally (some of us have to go left to right, while other need to see their week up and down). Either way, you get to choose how to fill in your spaces, and the first section in the planner helps you choose how you want to layout and use the planner!
The cover is a nice, study but light laminate with inside pockets. This is so great because the planner has many pages, and so much space but is not bulky or heavy.
Now, here is the monthly spread. (sorry, the color is off in my photo) See all the writing area?! So much space for notes, memories, lists. There is a wonderful quote in the top right hand corner and at the bottom of the page.
Overall, the planner is beautiful! The How To section is very helpful, each planning section/form is easy to fill in and offers so much flexibility. I think it is perfect for any Christian homeschooling family; everything you need for planning can be found in this planner!
