Chris Tomlin CD Review & Giveaway~ Holy Roar

If there is one thing I know can turn our day around, it is worshipping Jesus. We enjoy many of Chris Tomlin’s worship songs in our home, and his latest album Holy Roar is no exception. With a focus on the freedom and wonder of worship as a community, pouring out our praise in song, Holy Roar brings every voice together.

Holy Roar Album Giveaway

There isn’t a song on this album that the body of believers won’t resonate with in home, church, or the family mini van. 😉 Of course there is the radio favorite, Resurrection Power which reminds us all of the power of the Holy Spirit, alive in every believer. Our new family favorite is Impact– this is a request by all my children. No one ever expects the impact Jesus will have on their life, but once we’ve accepted Him, knowing the impact he has during worship and every day life is life changing. This song touches on that and the abounding emotions found within that understanding.

The raw I Stand in Awe, with Nicole Serrano, is probably one of my all time favorite worship songs now. Mapping out the milestones of the journey we take when accepting Christ, the questions, wonder, and absolute awe we have for Him, for his perfect love for us, the blessings He has already laid out for us, this song is just absolutely beautiful. How Sweet It Is (featuring Pat Barrett) is a favorite to begin our day. This song has a chorus so simple, yet so pure and truthful; when even my youngest children sing it as we begin our day, it is easy to see Jesus working right then and there. The title track, Holy Roar, is sure to be a regular in any contemporary worship line-up, and for good reason.

Buy your copy of Holy Roar HERE.

The rest of the album is more powerful worship songs which combined will be known as one of Chris Tomlin’s greatest works. Your family and congregation will love worshiping our Lord to Holy Roar.

A little background on Chris Tomlin,

Chris Tomlin is one of the most heralded singer-songwriters in the world who
has amassed an impressive body of work. He has sold more than 8 million
albums, 11.3 million digital tracks with 16 #1 singles. Chris is one of only four
artists ever to receive the Sound Exchange Digital Radio Award for over 1
Billion digital radio streams.

Anna Dewdney’s Little Excavator {review and giveaway}

If you have young children or grandchildren, you have probably read the Llama Llama series Anna Dewdney, with her fun and creative illustrations.  Well now we can welcome something to the Anna Dewdney family that is so exciting, my kids won’t put the book down- Trucks!

We have been reading, for review, Anna’s newest book (Pre order your copy here) Little Excavator.  It has been a huge hit at our house; we love anything that rhymes, anything about trucks, and anything by our Anna Dewdney!  So when Little Excavator arrived in the mail box, all of my children were thrilled.

Anna Dewdney's Little Excavator

About the Book

The Big Rigs are working hard at the construction site when Little Excavator rolls up, eager to help. But Little Excavator isn’t big enough to CHUG CHUG CHUG! like the Dump Truck as it loads dirt to lug or MOUND MOUND MOUND! like the ‘Dozer as it pushes up the ground. Little Excavator wants to smooth out bumps and dig up dirt, but he is just too small. As Big Rigs around him WORK WORK WORK! they finally find a job that no other machine can do…except for Little Excavator!
There are exciting illustrations to go along with all the hard work happening on the job site, while “Little E” finds a job suited just right for him.  We get to learn about other types of construction machines, which is usually pretty fun for small children, especially those in my house. =)
About the Author
Anna Dewdney was a teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of reading aloud to children. She continually honed her skills as an artist and writer and published her first Llama Llama book in 2005. Her passion for creating extended to home and garden and she lovingly restored an 18th century farmhouse in southern Vermont. She wrote, painted, gardened, and lived there with her partner, Reed, her two daughters, two wirehaired pointing griffons, and one bulldog. Anna passed away in 2016, but her spirit will live on in her books.
See a complete list of her titles here.  We have many of her books- from board books, to paper backs and hard back copies of our favorites. Little Excavator has definitely reached favorite status in our home.

Charlie The Tramp {a children’s book review}

*giveaway closes 12/14/16*charlie-the-tramp-cover

I am a lover of all things quality children’s literature.  I subscribe to Charlotte Mason’s way of thinking, that twaddle books keep children from reading, enjoying, and learning to love real, quality literature.

I am so happy to say we have been reading Charlie the Tramp, for a review, and it is a beautiful children’s book.

Charlie is a beaver who wants to be … not so much a beaver!  He wants to be a tramp when he grows up, because tramps don’t have to chop wood, keep their teeth sharp, or learn how to build dams.  He tells his family that he wants to go out into the world and be a tramp; so they pack him a lunch, give him hugs, and send him on his way.

But Grandfather Beaver says, “You never know when a tramp will turn out to be a beaver …”  And of course, Charlie turns out to be a beaver! 😉

This lovely, award-winning book is written by Russell Hoban, with beautiful illustrations by Lillian Hoban; it is an American classic that has been reissued in hardcover format for its 50th anniversary! You will recognize Russell and Lillian Hoban as the author and illustrator of the Frances books, enchanting stories about a badger named Frances.

We have been enjoying this story in our home at bedtime readings.  My son (4 years old) is very interested in being a firefighter when he grows up, so he has really enjoyed the tale of Charlie wanting to become a tramp when he grows up.  The story offers many character and simple life lessons children and adults of all ages will enjoy.  It is definitely a wholesome story, that you can feel comfortable reading to your family.

Every Day with God {a devotional}

Every day since my oldest child was 2 years old, we have read from a children’s devotional; it is part of our night time routine.  We have read through all of the ones in the series that we began with, and reread one of them.  So I was very excited when we were offered a chance to review a new one- Every Day with God: 365 daily devotionals for Boys from VeggieTales.

every-day-with-god-for-boys

As soon as it arrived, we started reading it daily and the kids have loved it. But most importantly, I have loved it!  Unlike most character-type books, it is a solid devotional based on Biblical truth and wonderful information for growing disciples!

Each daily page includes a Bible verse, prayer, thought of the day, and a devotion.  It is 384 pages, paperback, and recommended for ages 4-7.  My 6 year old and 4 year old do this devotional daily and love it!  My 2 year  old enjoys walking around with it, flipping the pages, and talking about what she sees.  It has become a family favorite!

Now I would love for you to have a chance to win a copy!  Use the rafflecopter form below to enter the giveaway

The winner will be chosen randomly, via rafflecopter- I will contact you to find out which version you would like, boy or girl. I am not responsible for shipping your prize.

Marcia Furman Art Post card Pack, Review and ….

I think I have mentioned before that we enjoy PostCrossing.com

{You exchange postcards with others all over the country. Typically you tell a little about the place you live, the weather, what types of things there are to do there. In their profile, users include the type of postcards they enjoy receiving, etc. } Not only you can use postcards to keep in touch with others, some companies use them for marketing purpose, for example, if you have a small business and you would like to reach your local community through direct marketing, you might use a companies like MyCreativeShop. For us, we kept to spenting them to friends we had around the world.

We have had great luck with our exchanges- We have sent and received postcards from New Jersey, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Germany, and Portugal. Some of the recipients of ours were so nice, and sent us a postcard in return (which is not required). They usually send an age appropriate and fun card for Lexie.

I couldn’t find any postcards here in York (surprised?).

We wanted fun, unusual postcards, so I did a little looking around … When I found these beautiful pieces of art! If you are interested in making your own unique postcards you could try somewhere similar to Printivity.

Marcia of Cinamon Squirrel graciously donated a pack of her beautiful postcards for Lexie and I to send during our Postcrossing “adventures.”

After looking at Marcia’s blog here: http://marciafurman.blogspot.com/2008/08/welcome.html
I realized just how talented and creative she is!

Her etsy shop has so many unique and gorgeous items; from pocket mirrors, to zippered pouches and wall art, she offers so much- and each one makes a great gift! I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t enjoy original art with a little pizz-azz.

Here are some pictures of the postcards Lexie and I sent to via Postcrossing (sorry for the not-so-professional photos…):

Those are just a few of the beautiful postcards Marcia shared with us! Lexie was so excited, because she got to choose which cards went to which recipients. Each card was her “favorite,” haha.

The Cinnamon Squirrel and Moth Mallows are my favorites! I think I am going to get Lexie the Moth Mallows for her room, after I decide how I should frame/mount it.

A bonus of Marcia not only being a talented artist, she is also open about her spirituality and faith. I love that!

I just want to thank Marcia for sharing her art with us, and also with you! ***Because a lucky reader is going to receive a postcard pack from Marcia. How exciting!

Handmade Doll Clothing Review and Giveaway!

****Winner!!***
Miranda B., you are the winner of this Giveaway! Please contact me at: MegsWLifeIsGood at gmail dot com or on Facebook! Congratulations!

I have an awesome product review for you today!

As you may know, Lexie has a few waldorf style dolls. We don’t have extra clothes for them. However, I have had an opportunity to review some precious handmade doll clothes by Sue at Emma’s Doll Shop on Etsy.

Her precious clothes are made to fit American Girl dolls, or 18″ dolls. Lexie will be getting my American Girl doll when she is a bit older, but for now we used Sue’s clothes on our waldorf dolls and they fit great.

First a little about Sue and her shop. A little background on how this grandma began making quality doll clothes:

“‘Gramma, will you make me more doll clothes the next time we have, uhmmm, like… a Christmas?’ That was Emma at age 5. Thus began my love for making doll clothes!”

Oh the things we will do for the children we love. =)

I was so excited when we received this set in the mail; it was packaged so nicely, no wrinkles and very professional.

When Lexie opened it, she immediately knew which doll would get to wear the “pretty nightgown like Lexie has. Ooooh- and panties!”
Lexie putting Lilly to “night night” with her quilt

She quickly sought out Lilly from her room, and began changing the doll’s clothes.

I am most impressed with the quality of Sue’s workmanship. As a girl who enjoys sewing, I know how tedious serging, top stitching, and placing fine details on your work can be.

But to do it on such a small piece of work, like a doll dress and panties?! That’s quality!

Her choices of fabric, patterns, and attention to detail are perfect, and even better she is reasonably priced.

I also want to mention, that the nightgown has a Velcro closure, which makes it so much easier for Lexie to dress her dolls. It also protects against the risk of her accidentally tearing the nightgown while taking it on and off of Lilly (our fluffiest waldorf doll).

Also note, my pictures are not professional photographs, they do not do Sue’s work justice. Check our her shop, Emma’s Doll Shop for more items and details!

From panty sets to dress sets, she offers all the accessories your child’s American Girl doll could need. If you’re looking for a pram for your child’s doll, you can find a great selection at PlayLikeMum.com.

Here is a little detail from one of Sue’s etsy listings:

“This doll dress features:
* Preshrunk cotton fabric
* Fully lined bodice for smoother lines and long lasting use
* Velcro closing in the back of bodice
* A yellow ribbon around her waist which ties between the front and the side
* The ribbon ends have been sealed.
* Finished seams for durability
* Machine wash and dry
* Made in my smoke free studio

My Personal Guarantee: I am extremely confident you will love this outfit. If you don’t, I am happy to offer a full refund, no questions asked.”

You cannot beat that! These clothes are made to last, and beautiful!

She has a precious blog here: http://www.seamstressy.blogspot.com/, I hope you will check it out.

***Sue has graciously offered a nightgown and quilt set, along with a pair of doll panties for me to review, and the best part? One lucky reader will also receive a nightgown and quilt for the American Girl (or 18″) doll in their child’s life!

HOW WINNING WORKS: I will announce the winner June 16, 2013 on this post and Facebook, so be looking for your name on June 16th! Winner will have 24 hours to contact me (whether via facebook, twitter, or email to: MegsWLifeIsGood at gmail dot com), before I move on to the next person. Open to 48 continental US residents only.

Disclaimer: I received these items free of charge for my personal, honest opinion. I was not paid or asked to write a positive review on this product. These are my personal views and opinions; neither myself or the shop owner are affiliated with American Girl. Pictures courtesy myself, and Emma’s Doll Shop listings on etsy.
