Simple Woman’s Daybook {early Sept 2019}

For Today
Simple Woman {Daybook}
Looking out my window
the sun is rising, it is cool and still. The yard is immaculate (because my amazing husband worked so hard to get it tidy for a party a few days ago), and the grass is covered in dew. This is my favorite time of year, and I am praying winter holds off util January.
I am thinking
I should have already gotten the kids up this morning, but I am moving slow… it’s what happens when I wake up at 3am, wide awake and struggle to go back to sleep. Determined to have a good day, though … even if that requires a nap.
I am thankful
for these 4 healthy babies, our days at home together, our farm animals that bring us so much joy … including the barn cats that I have put down stairs temporarily until they catch the mouse that is hiding behind my oven.
One of my favorite things
Quiet in the Chaos-my favorite things
I am creating
Nothing right now … I do my daily journaling, and work on our family journal at night sometimes.
I am wearing
my gown and a pony tail
I am reading (read) /watching (watched) / listening to
-watching- Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix
-listening- A Child’s History of the World (for homeschool) and Before We Were Yours
currently readingThe Lost Art of Reading Nature’s Signs (this is the lowest price this book has been in a year- grab it!), and The Lake House by Kate Morton
Over the summer I listened to Where the Crawdads Sing. This is a wonderful book, one of the best I’ve listened to/read in a while!
I am hoping
Flossie and Yona’s heats are over SOON! Yes, both the house dog and the LGD are in heat. This makes for looong days of taking Flossie in and out. We will spay her, but not until she is a bit older. I bought the diapers so she could be out in the house with us, but she TTs in them, so she is living in her kennel and on a leash outside. Not fun for anyone!
Flossie is not impressed
LGD in heat
I am learning
That my body hates change, that thyroid issues are more complicated than just taking medicine, some days are good, and some days are really not good. One day at a time.
In my kitchen
… I have a gluten free sourdough starter on the counter, coffee, and my Vitamix (which I used to blend up my coffee with (dairy free creamer Nutpods), collagen, and sunflower lecithin. The rest of this week will consist of easy meals for me- protein smoothies, eggs, (goat)cheesy low carb biscuits, lots of water, and ham with lettuce, baked okra,. Really, life in my kitchen is boring later as I attempt Trim Healthy Mama, per my doctor. She doesn’t want me to do Keto (it tends to be hard on adrenals and thyroid) so THM is supposed to be a good balance of controlling your blood sugar but being able to have fruits, and healthy carbs.
The family will be eating leftovers so we can get the fridge cleaned out, along with eggs, salads, roasted okra, and probably a cabbage and bacon meal this weekend.
In the school room
This week has gone great! It was week 2 of our new school year. We haven’t actually started our Sonlight core yet, because I have been hunting for it used … which is proving impossible to find. So I will have to buy it new, and that’s a large chunk of money ($100 or so when it’s all said and done), hence the waiting. But, it looks like I need to go ahead and make the purchase or we are going to get behind with our reading… so, there’s that.
Lady and Mister have been enjoying learning more grammar, they both love their math and the independence that comes with CLE, and the Miss is doing a little more reading. Squish is learning her ABC sounds and shapes right now. She has colors and counting down.

In my garden
Well, the garden didn’t get put in this year … so right now it is empty. The flower beds are being redone with thick black fabric covered by large river stone rocks. They are beautiful, and I can’t wait to get the whole thing done. Right now we (ehum, the husband) have finished the big middle flowerbed and it looks really nice.

Fall Days 2017 {Simple Woman’s Daybook 35}

Outside my Window …
The sun is coming up, it is cool and crisp. The dogs are laying in the freshly pulled-up garden, and the chickens are pecking around.

I am thinking…
Today is going to be a good day!

I am thankful…
for my husband, his hard work and love for us, this fall weather, the fire in the fireplace, and snuggles with my babies.

In the kitchen…
Coffee.

I am wearing…
jeans and a shirt with my hair in a towel. Had to get started before getting the kids up today.

I am creating…
well, I started cutting and taping a pattern yesterday, but the actual creating has not yet taken place. =P

I am going…
to snuggle and read to my kids, send them out to play, then get some learning time done. We have violin and vision therapy today, so our afternoon will be spent out of the house.

I am wondering…
how in the world my sweet girl has been able to see to read so well for so long. I can’t even imagine what it has been like for her; so thankful we have found someone to help us get through her vision dysfunction and get both eyes working.

I am reading…
The Wise Woman Knows Bible study.

I am hoping…
to have a calm and fun week.

I am looking forward to…
this beautiful day! Finally clear skies after a week of cold, drizzly, foggy days (which were actually nice to have, but just ready for some sun). I love homeschool because we can spend so much time outdoors, walking, reading, playing, and just being.

Sweet slow days are so meaningful.

I am learning…
how incredibly complex and multifaceted the human body really is.

Around the house…
we are suddenly overflowing with books again! I need to swap some of them out for fall and winter books from my shelves downstairs.

A favorite quote for today…

One of my favorite things…
Coffee outside with my husband every morning.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
After today, just focus on reading with the kids, school, and being outside!

A peek into my day…

no pics today. =)

Simple Woman {Daybook}

Simple Woman’s Daybook 33

Outside my Window …
it is raining and windy.  We had some thunderstorms come through this morning.  The ducks and the chickens thoroughly enjoyed it … The dogs, not so much.

I am thinking…
about the curriculum I need to get, and things I need to print off to help my oldest with some math concepts.  I want to get the Mister (4.5yo) some things printed from ThisReadingMama.com (LOVE her resources!)

I am also contemplating more cloth diapers because I have several in my stash that are done. =(

I am thankful…
for a green spring.

In the kitchen…
there is bone broth in the crock pot and nothing planned for dinner.

I am wearing…
my pajamas.

I am creating…
working on a dress for Ila, and have a ton of projects I need to do for all the kids.

I am going…
no where!  Finally we have a normal week with no interruptions or errands.

I am reading…
This Impossible Light
I am hoping…
For a nice sunny day soon

I am looking forward to…
getting some sewing done, and the summer garden coming in!

I am learning…
balance is hard; I can only keep it for a short time and then things shift.

Around the house…
so much to do.

A favorite quote for today…

One of my favorite things…
reading to my kids

A few plans for the rest of the week:
school, hang out at home for once!

A peek into my day…
just imagine laundry, laundry everywhere.

Spring 2017 {Simple Woman’s Daybook 32}

Outside my Window …
It is beautiful outside!  Warm, sunny, but windy

I am thinking…
About the mess that is my basement.  The kids and I have a ton of work to do this afternoon!

I am thankful…
that my husband is headed home, the sun is out, and OH MY GOSH the trees are blooming!  Seriously, full bloom.

In the kitchen…
dishes are still in the sink, we haven’t unloaded the dishwasher, and the counters need clearing off.  I have no idea what is for dinner tonight.

I am wearing…
jeans and a shirt

I am creating…
nothing, just haven’t had time to create anything.

I am going…
to Memphis later this week!

I am wondering…
how we are going to fit all our people in my van for a 12 hour trip. *sigh* That Suburban fund can’t grow fast enough!

I am reading…
My The Old Schoolhouse magazine, and overloading my brain online with curriculum ideas for next year!

I am hoping…
this afternoon goes smoothly
I am looking forward to…
Memphis

I am learning…
There are never enough hours in the day.  I have never felt like we had rushed days until recently, and I HATE it.  It isn’t good for me, my kids, or our brains and emotions.  I am ready for a slowdown.

Around the house…
blocks.  books.  pillows.  clothes.

Everywhere.

A favorite quote for today…
Not a quote, but how I feel, surrounded by loads upon loads of laundry. Every. Day.

Last week I resorted to telling my children they had to wear their overalls every time they go outside, leave them in the garage when they come inside, and can only change their shirt once a day.  Every time they go outside, they get dirty, dusty, or muddy. AAAAAH the laundry!

One of my favorite things…
SPRING!

A few plans for the rest of the week:
pack and homeschool

A peek into my day…

Turkeys crossing the road on our way home from my oldest’s well child visit.  oh- she is 63 pounds and in the 98% for height… just like when she was a baby!

A New LGD on the Farm {Simple Woman’s Daybook 31}

Outside my Window …
It is warm, and cloudy.  We spent most of the morning outside playing and working with the dogs.

I am thinking…
I am so thirsty!  Where is my water …

I am thankful…
spring has come early.  BUT, I wasn’t ready to put away my leggings and boots yet.  =(

In the kitchen…
bone broth is waiting to be moved to the freezer, ham and beans are in the crock pot, and i need to finish cleaning form breakfast … (it is 1:30!)

I am wearing…
a dress

I am creating…
nothing right now … well, I have a few things started but haven’t worked on them in a month!

I am going…
to make phone calls this afternoon.  SO many phone calls

I am reading…
Nothing really, just have too much to do for reading lately.

I am hoping…
We get some rain soon; I hate mud but we could really use a wet spring!

I am looking forward to…
one of my girlfriends just told me she is headed to KS in May!  I am hoping some more of the girls can come, but aaaah!  That is exciting!

I am learning…
more about dogs than I ever thought I would need to know.  LGDs are just miraculous animals; they’re so smart, and sensitive, insightful, and even better than all those things, they know what needs to be done before a human needs to ask it of them.

Around the house…
well, the floors are vacuumed, I can say that.  Otherwise, it isn’t a pretty sight!

A favorite quote for today…

One of my favorite things…

cause puppies!  I realize I haven’t given Anne with an E a proper introduction yet.  It will probably be here Firday or next week. =)
Huck and Anne LGD for the farm

A few plans for the rest of the week:
-school, get Huck his lepto vax, co-op, my PT appointment, maybe get some sewing done …

A peek into my day…
bone broth

Here is a link to how I make my bone broth.  And HERE is a link to my new favorite crock pot- IT IS HUGE!

Happy Tuesday!

The One With The Boys {a simple woman’s daybook 30}

Outside my Window …
My boys.

Mister has been attached to his daddy all day long.  He’s done tractor work, dirt work, garden work, and now they’re playing baseball in the front yard.

I am thinking…
I wish this baby wasn’t so fussy so we could go join them; but she currently hates the cold, and it has turned cooler again.

I am thankful…
for a husband that loves spending time with his babies, guiding them, and teaching them how to be good people.

In the kitchen…
nothing.  Lots of dirty dishes and no meals planned.  That’s my kitchen today.

I am wearing…
pajama pants and a tshirt

I am creating…
plans for a few dresses; but I did get some things done in the sewing room last week, so that was nice.

I am going…
to Costco tomorrow!  woo hoo, our favorite. =)

I am reading…
a few different titles, and my The Old Schoolhouse catalogue that came.
I am hoping…
Baby speeds up this teething process because this last week she was a bear, and still is!

I am looking forward to…
The Walking Dead tonight (yes … I love that show).  School and relaxing this week.

I am learning…
This parenting thing is just flying by.

Around the house…
it is a disaster.  Mama is lazy today.

A favorite quote for today…

One of my favorite things…
bonfires with good friends, late nights with my husband,, easy mornings with my babies,

A few plans for the rest of the week:
get lots of school done, rearrange the living room a little, plan the garden

A peek into my day…

Simple Woman {Daybook}

The One With a Puppy {Simple Woman’s Daybook 29}

Outside my Window …
It is warm and cloudy; why is it in the 70’s in February?!  I won’t complain about the fog and early morning drizzle, we need the rain. And I won’t complain about the warmth, but I mean really?!  If this means we will have snow in May, I’d rather it be cold now!
I am thinking…
I have so much to get done this week!

I am thankful…
that we had a friend from AR come visit this weekend, that we had rain this morning, that we have a little farm, and that we added a new buddy to the farm this past week!

In the kitchen…
There is bone broth in the crock pot, eggs on the counter, and leftovers for dinner.

I am wearing…
leggings and a shirt

I am creating…
a few things in my sewing room

I am going…
to Costco and the library this week

I am wondering…
if we are going to have anymore winter between now and spring?!

I am reading…
Teaching From Rest, as recommended by so many homeschoolers … it is a good book.  Except I have already implemented most of what I am reading so far, and my train of thought is already there, so I am wishing I had picked it up at the library and not purchased it.

I am hoping…
I find more info in the book that is helpful, and not just a bunch of ideas and thoughts I already have, agree with, implement in my home. =/

I am looking forward to…
The warm week-warmth means mama and Baby can go out more (she does NOT like the cold, even bundled up, so I’ve been inside more than I’d like this winter).

I am learning…
how to work with a puppy, specifically and LGD puppy that is going to hopefully bond with and protect my chickens and family- he is NOT for playing with.  He has play time, in the evenings, but the rest of the time he is watching chickens, sleeping with chickens, and sitting with me as we learn about chickens.  The cows are too big for him to be with right now, but I wouldn’t be against adding a few calves for him to bond with soon.  =)

Around the house…
It just is.  Things are pretty clean, tidy.  I just have a ton of laundry to get through.

A favorite quote for today…
Dog best friend
One of my favorite things…

Meet Huck!  As in Huckleberry Finn.  He sure is a sweet, sensitive boy that likes adventure.  We are sure the 40 acres will be a good place for him to learn, grow, and protect.
I won’t write about how we are training him, because honestly there is a LOT that is going into it, and I don’t know if it will all be successful.  I have spoken with a consultant that has assured me Thora’s escalating resource aggression wasn’t a result of anything we did.  So I am hoping that what we do for Huck can prevent any issues and create a great guardian.  Because these kinds of dogs don’t necessarily “bond” with chickens like they will mammals, we have to do a little extra work to ensure he is okay around them.

However, so far he gets very upset when he is not in the run with the chickens.  He was raised with his parents and chickens for 14 weeks, until we got him, so he is used to them.  It is just avoiding playing with them at this point, that is important.

Huck is part Great Pyrenees, and part Anatolian Shepherd.  Anatolian Shepherds are more aggressive with predators than a Great Pyr, and are better able to take on a coyote than a GP might.  They are also more likely to stay closer to home than a GP, or so I read. So we will see how he does. =)

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Run errands, do school, get some sewing done, work with Huck, menu plan, and work around the farm in the WARMTH!  woo hoo

A peek into my day…
See Huck’s photo collage above.

Peek Into My Day {SD 29}

We did school, then went for a walk in the woods after lunch.  Aaah, fresh air, and fun!

Simple Woman {Daybook}

The Winter Blahs {A Simple Woman’s Daybook #28}

Outside my Window …
It is cold and sunny~ After 2 days of spring like weather, we are in for a freezing, ice-filled weekend.  Brrr

I am thinking…
I wish my treadmill wasn’t broken, because it is too cold out to run!

I am thankful…
For the big fire in the fire place, and my husband who chops all the firewood.

In the kitchen…
The sink is full of breakfast dishes, and I am thinking about what to cook for dinner.

I am wearing…
my gown.  It’s been one of those days…

I am creating…
a gift, a blanket (still working on baby’s crochet blanket .. Eeesh), a deef for my son.

I am going…
to take a nap because I was up all night, and rise and shine at 4:40am.

I am reading…
I’ve sort of put everything down, but haven’t finished anything.  Can you say uninspired?

I am hoping…
We don’t lose power this weekend, dinner will cook itself, and someone will get the laundry off the clothes line because it is so. cold.

I am looking forward to…
The weekend.

I am learning…
Sleep is important.  Exercise makes me feel normal, and it is hard to get motivated when I can’t get outside…

Around the house…
I’ve been adding a little more farmhouse decor to the place.  Took down some darker curtains and put up some cream, flax-linen panels.  They really help brighten and contrast the darker wood that. is. everywhere.

A favorite quote for today…

One of my favorite things…
…not winter.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
School, cardiologist appointment for the Mister, get some sewing done.

A peek into my day…
just imagine a zombie running on coffee and peanut butter MMs … That’s what it looks like here today. haha

Christmas 2016 {Simple Woman’s Daybook #27}

Outside my Window …
The snow is melting and it is warmer than it has been the last week.  4 degrees is COLD.

I am thinking…
I have so much more I want to do before Christmas and next week, but I am not going to stress over getting it done.

I am thankful…
For my husband, my babies, and a minimal Christmas.

In the kitchen…
There is bone broth in the crock pot, dishes in the sink, chicken and rice on the stove.
I am wearing…
Workout pants and an oversized T my husband gave me that is. so. soft.

I am creating…
So many things, 18″ dolls with clothes for the girls, hopefully a buck deer for the Mister, a pinafore for Lexie, more PJ pants for Mister, and a baby gift for our new niece.

I am going…
to visit a friend this afternoon.

I am wondering…
if the kids are going to like their homemade gifts.  Bunnies for Lexie and Coralie, a deer for Ila.

Homemade Christmas 2016

I am reading…
Raising Real Men (yep, still working on it. It’s great, I’ve just been spending every extra waking moment on sewing)

I am hoping…
2017 is as wonderful as 2016.

I am looking forward to…
Our family vacation to Branson!  We haven’t been on a family vacation in so long, just us!  I can’t wait.

I am learning…
I don’t like the cold anymore. I am already ready for spring.

Around the house…
It is a disaster (this happens when I sew) … the tree is down because it started drying up so early and was painfully pokey, there are boxes of Christmas decorations in the living room (extras) because I can’t put them in the garage, because IT is filled to the brim with amazon boxes and gifts from family, but I don’t want to take the decorations downstairs because I will need to put away what I do have up, in less than 5 days.  Laundry isn’t done, diapers aren’t washed, it is really just a huge mess.  *I think I will go hide in my sewing room now*

A favorite quote for today…
money cant buy happiness

One of my favorite things…
The appropriate answer here seems to be sewing

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Finish projects, pack for Branson, bake for Christmas, clean the house …

A peek into my day…
See above image of Christmas gifts …

Simple Woman’s Daybook #26 {fall}

Outside my Window …
it is a beautiful, cool fall morning.

I am thinking…
about all the errands I need to run this week.

I am thankful…
for the beautiful weather and 40 acres to play on.

In the kitchen…
you will find a disaster, waiting for me to clean it up.

I am wearing…
workout leggings, a t shirt, and a towel on my head because I just got out of the shower.

I am creating…
I currently am *still* working on crocheting Coralie’s baby blanket, and a dishcloth.

I am going…
to make myself run errands this week, try to get to the zoo with the kids, and get everyone a real haircut!

I am wondering…
how warm it is going to be today.  I need to get a walk in.

I am reading…
The Wonder Weeks, Raising Real Men, and I have a few others on my list to get read.

I am hoping…
the rest of this week runs smoothly.

I am looking forward to…
more eggs!  Our baby chickens, now pullets, have begun laying.  We are getting about 7 eggs a day from them, plus the 4-6 we get from our big girls.  There are 14 pullets, but one is a runt with a bum leg so I think am not certain that she will lay.  In warm weather we should be getting an egg a day from them!

I am learning…
how to get my ends just right when crocheting.

Around the house…
it is just a wreck; laundry to be folded, dishes in the sink, a naky 2 year old running around, and pillows all over the floor…. don’t ask.

A favorite quote for today…

i-love-fall-3
One of my favorite things…
FALL!  Bonfires, leaves, red leaves, jackets, boots, leggings, and sweaters.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Did I mention errands?  We have to: get haircuts, get to the pharmacy, go to Costco, make a deposit at the bank, drop a few things off at a friend’s … the list goes on.

A peek into my day…
Chores, a walk, homeschool, and a short workout.  Not in that order.
